MA Graphic Design
Typography project

Brief
Imagine that writing does not yet exist in your culture or that it has been forgotten. Your task is to invent it, emulating a 6,000 year process in a few days.

1) Choose 9 objects which represent everyday life and record these in the form of 9 photographic images.
2) Draw the photographs in line and tone.
3) Refine at nine of the drawings to iconic pictograms.
4) Refine the pictograms to glyphs.
5) Regulate these forms to conventions appropriate to a chosen technology.
6) Give each of your new glyphs names.
7) Arrange the glyphs sequentially in an appropriate page layout.
8) Document the entire process in printed form with emphasis on the presentation of stages 5 to 7.
